What is the difference between a physiatrist and a physical therapist?

A physiatrist is a medical doctor or physician.   A physiatrist coordinates and assesses the effectiveness of therapists (physical, occupational, and speech), manages medical problems, prescribes medication, orders medical equipment and diagnostic studies, and provides care for chronic disabilities, while a physical therapist diagnoses and treats musculoskeletal injuries. 

What is natural medicine?

Natural medicine relies on your own body's healing powers with the help of herbal remedies, diet and water therapies.

What is holistic medicine?

Holistic medicine includes treating the mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of your health in association with your physical body. The belief is that our mind and body are unified. Examples include Aromatherapy, Herbal Therapy, Vitamin supplements, acupuncture, facial rejuvenation, and dietary recommendations.

What is facial rejuvenation?

The procedure called Facial Rejuvenation, is a non-surgical method of reducing signs of aging. Often referred to as cosmetic acupuncture. It is virtually painless.

What Is alternative medicine?

Alternative Medicine is a medical treatment that goes beyond the conventional modern medicine. Some examples include acupuncture, Reiki, herbal therapy, and Qigong (pronounced "chee gong").

What is Qigong?

Qigong is health practice that consists of meditation, relaxation, physical movement, mind-body integration, and breathing exercises.

What is complementary medicine?

Complementary medicine is a combination of alternative treatments and traditional treatments. The two practices work in union with each other.

How do I go about getting an appointment for acupuncture?

We will give you an appointment for the initial evaluation to determine if your are a good candidate for acupuncture.  This initial exam may or may not be covered by insurance.

I am afraid of needles but am interested in acupuncture. What do you suggest?

We now offer an acupuncture instrument called the Acutron Mentor that allows for needle-less acupuncture. A perfect solution if you have a fear of needles.

Is acupuncture covered by insurance? 
Currently most insurance plans do not cover acupuncture, but we would be happy to check with your insurance to see if you have this benefit.   However, it is often covered by flexible spending accounts.

What does acupuncture treat? 

Acupuncture can treat pain and other medical problems, as well as promoting wellness. Pain from Fibromyalgia, low back pain and seasonal allergies are just some of the many conditions that can all be treated with acupuncture.

How long does a treatment take to perform?  

Acupuncture treatments generally take about 20 minutes but, plan on being at the office for about 45 minutes.

After acupuncture treatments stop, how long do the benefit continue? 
The benefits of acupuncture can last up to several months to years.  Patients do come back periodically for what they call a “tune up”.

Are the costs of herbs or aromatherapy covered by insurance? 

No, these have to be paid for out of pocket.  It is possible flexible spending accounts could cover the cost. We recommend you check with your individual plan.
