Hypnosis is a state of consciousness involving focused attention which makes you more susceptible to outside suggestions. It can be very beneficial for many conditions seen in the medical office including: anxiety, stress, performance improvement, insomnia, chronic pain, smoking, and over eating.  Quite often people believe many myths about hypnosis, primarily based on what they have seen involving stage hypnosis. However, when done by a medical professional it is quite safe and very effective, especially when rapport has been built between the hypnotist and the patient. As represented in the picture, rarely is a swinging watch used to induce a trance.

Despite most people saying they can't be hypnotized most actually can, and will generally remember all or most of the session. If you've ever driven down the highway, gotten to an exit but don't remember the last 5 miles,  you were in a hypnotic trance.  Basically hypnosis Is assisting you in getting to that state more readily. It involves a theta brain wave state.  Once in the hypnotic trance suggestions are given to assist you with your specific issue. Whereas the conscious mind has walls and barriers to protect itself, the subconscious mind is more open to suggestion, but also knows what is best for the individual. During hypnosis there is a dissociation between the conscious and subconscious mind.

Clinically, most people find hypnosis to be very relaxing and enjoyable. You will likely feel very refreshed when it has been completed.  Expect a total of about 3-5 sessions. You'll also learn how to do self hypnosis in the privacy of your home.

Many insurance plans cover hypnosis when done by a medical professional. You'll need to check your individual plan's coverage for details.

If you'd like hypnosis for any of the issues listed above please call to schedule an appointment.
